What they're saying about our books

Smoke on the Water

The prolific Dave Thompson (80 books and counting) has returned to our bookshelves with another impressive band biography. This time the band under the microsope is Deep Purple. This is by no means a hatchet job, but it does trace the band’s history, warts and all. Those keen on tales of debauchery and general rock & roll behaviour should look elsewhere; this book is more about the actual machine that is Deep Purple. I would conjecture that even the most ardent fan of the band will find out something he does not know from this tome. As you would expect, it contains a complete discography, as well as pictures from various versions of the band. This is the perfect companion to your brand new remastered copy of Burn. This is by far the best book of its kind I have read. Thompson delivers all the facts but retains the reader’s interest with a flowing writing style… Needless to say, Smoke on the Water is an essential purchase for anyone with a healthy interest in Deep Purple.
