If rare record sleeves, tour laminates, posters and so on are your bag, go for this [book] by veteran Canadian scribe Popoff. Having interviewed all of Priest several times over the years, the author provides plenty of from-the-horse's-mouth information while retaining the unauthorized book author's big editorial advantage: of being able to cheer heartily when they release a good album and mock relentlessly when they release a crappy one. The whole story of the band is here, from the grim roots and rip-off record labels via stadium-level stardom and the court case over the supposed subliminal messages to, of course, the small matter of Halford coming out on MTV. Top stuff. [8]
