Chatelaine
For a great laugh
Shelf Monkey (ECW Press, $19) In Corey Redekop's dark comedy, Thomas Friesen is a minimum-wage minion at READ, a "mega-box-hyper-super-huge-bookstore" that's run like a car dealership. The outrageously popular book club of TV talk-show host Munroe Purvis is debasing the literary IQ of the nation. Friesen and his fellow employees take up arms, and an RCMP manhunt ensues. This satire has enough literary schadenfreude to satisfy even the most seasoned bibliophile.
