From mysteries to thrillers to true crime, crime writing forms one of the top selling categories of books in the world.
Now in its seventh year The Symposium on the Book is pulling back the covers on crime writing in Canada. On Saturday, July 12, crime writing aficionados and literary fiction connoisseurs alike will gather at Simon Fraser University as ten of Canada’s top crime writing and publishing experts explore the techniques of writing crime and the role and place of ‘genre’ writing in Canada.
Six of Canada’s top crime writers, including ECW’s Anne Emery (Sign of the Cross, Obit, Barrington Street Blues), winner of the 2007 Arthur Ellis Award, join crime fiction book reviewer Margaret Cannon, M&S editor Dinah Forbes, and mystery bookstore owner Walter Sinclair to discuss the subgenres of crime writing. Well-known mystery writer Mary Jane Maffini will moderate the panel. This all-star lineup promises an in-depth look at the position of crime writing in Canada.
