Rope Opera

by Vince Russo

Price: $22.95

It’s been a decade since The Monday Night War waged between the WWF and WCW generated unprecedented and astronomical ratings, and the landscape of “the sport of kings” has changed radically. But one thing remains constant: the fans chanting “Fire Russo!” can still be heard at TV tapings and pay-per-view events across North America. And Vince Russo, the man who has at times been called “the most hated man in professional wrestling” wouldn’t have it any other way.

In his first book, Forgiven, Vince Russo delivered a modern-day parable about the price of success. In heartbreaking detail, he showed how a “godforsaken business” and the desire for acclaim in his career as a writer for Vince McMahon’s WWF led him into a spiritual wasteland.

Today, a changed Russo has returned to prominence in wrestling — a world he both loves and that has, he acknowledges, broken his heart — as one of the writers and masterminds behind TNA, the world’s fastest-growing and most cutting-edge wrestling promotion. For two hours every Thursday, Russo’s ideas and words revolutionize wrestling on Spike TV; but what he achieves on Impact! on a weekly basis has been many years in the making. He’s been known as both the saviour of the WWF and the man who destroyed WCW, and Rope Opera: How WCW Killed Vince Russo is the true, behind-the-scenes story of, quite simply, the rise and fall and rebirth of professional wrestling.

Many have tried to explain the inner workings of wrestling’s most turbulent era — but this is the first time someone in the centre of the maelstrom has ever laid everything bare. In returning to the page to take readers from the death of WCW to the rise of TNA, Vince Russo has crafted his most remarkable storyline: that a grown man can come to terms with, and find peace within, the insanity of the squared circle.

Anyone that criticizes Vince Russo, is basing their opinions on one, and only one perspective. Luckily, Vince Russo again gives us a glimpse into his point-of-view and gives us his side of the story...one that should be considered before anyone makes any criticisms, or forms any opinions. I, for one, am very thankful for Vince Russo's talents. It's amazing how Vince McMahon gets all the credit for Russo's success...for what has McMahon done after Russo left? Vinnie Ru deserves much more credit than he gets...and hopefully this book will be another step in him getting it. Cannot wait to read this!! Thank you, Russo!!

The main problem with Russo is that he needed some sort of filter to turn his good ideas into 'great' ideas that are in conjuction with storyline so they make sense. That was shown in WWF with the authority of Vince McMahon. He couldn't share the same success in WCW because of that factor, there was no peer looking over his ideas and piecing it all together, so instead, he just threw out everything he had. Yes, he may have had good ideas, but they just turned out to be one clusterf*.

Vince Russo imo is a writing genius but a lost jigsaw puzzle. So he needs someone better than him to put his ideas together to fix the puzzle.

Can't wait to read the book.

I cannot wait for this book, but Russo probably won't take any blame for anything. Instead, he most likely will just make excuses for decisions and justify them at the same time.

This man, this great, great man is the reason that the wrestling industry still exists to this day. Hand chosen by Vince McMahon himself when WWF was on the brink of bankruptcy, it was the ideas and writing of Vince Russo that brought about wrestling's most profitable time. The Attitude Era. It was Vince Russo's vision that helped usher in the great Monday Night Wars. It was Vince Russo that helped clean up the industry from its backwater yesteryear roots brought to stagnate by old business ideas like the ones that came from fools like Jim Cornette, and Kevin Sullivan. While TNA has not exploded out of its shell and become the new wave of wrestling excitement, Vince Russo stands proudly behind the scenes knowing it is his vision that even keeps the company afloat.

Russo bless you.
